How To Take Better Vacation Photos This Summer

How To Take Better Vacation Photos This Summer

This is not a blog post about new cameras or apps for you to buy to make your vacation photos better.  This is 5 easy ways for you to improve you family fun photography right now-for free!!

  1. The Best Camera–is the one you’ve got.
Which for lots of us means our phone. It’s rarely more than an arms reach away and super easy and fast to use. You do not–I repeat DO NOT need to invest in serious camera gear to get great family photos during your summer vacation.  What you do need to do, is take the photo!
  2. Change your perspective.
Whether you are at the pool, the park, or the beach get out of your chair to get a more interesting pic. Stand on something, lay in the grass, or get super close to your kiddo.  Just these tiny changes will make your photos so much more unique and fun!
  3. Get Closer–Avoid your zoom at all cost.
One of the best cell phone camera tips, no matter the situation, is don’t use your zoom–unless you absolutely have to!! The zoom immediately reduces the quality and sharpness of your image. So zoom with your feet, get as close to your subject as it takes to fill the frame the way you want it. Most times this isn’t too awkwardly close, so don’t worry.
  4. Get in the photo. Mom’s I’m talkin’ to you here.
I know this is easier said then done, I am soooo guilty of this. But how much do you love finding old photos of you with your mom or dad or heck of just your mom and dad together! your kids are going to want these photos with you guys, so go for the selfie or ask for help.  Most strangers will gladly snap a pic for you and probably even ask you to return the favor!
  5. Print your photos when you get back.
Years ago we put all of our photos from our digital cameras on CDs, ya know, for when we would want to look at them again. Welp, most computers don’t even have CD drives anymore. It’s going to be so much more fun to stumble across a vacation photo book or even loosely printed 4X6’s one day than an old phone or memory card that we most likely won’t even try to open.  20 years from now you do not want to send your kid to your Facebook page to check out their first beach trip! It’s easy, you can do it right from your phone, there are lots of options but for casual family vacas I use the Shutterfly App.
